Cronus received the prophecy about being overthrown from Gaia (Earth) and Uranus (Sky), his own parents. The prophecy warned that one of his children would dethrone him, just as he had overthrown Uranus. This foreboding prediction led Cronus to swallow each of his children at birth to prevent the prophecy from coming true. However, his wife Rhea, horrified by this act, eventually tricked him by hiding their youngest child, Zeus, and giving Cronus a swaddled stone to swallow instead. Zeus would later grow up to challenge and overthrow Cronus, fulfilling the prophecy.
